A lot has changed in the “digital revolution,” and in my lifetime, I’ve seen HVAC contractors go from spending 1/3 of their ad budget in yellow pages down to ZERO. The phone book is gone and it’s all about GOOGLE. But for your existing customers, you don’t want them Googling to find you. Ideally, you want to be in their “contacts” on their smart phone.

Did you know that a customer who finds you on their iPhone in “maps” has the option to “create a new contact”? It doesn’t get much better than being inside a customer’s phone. You can also add code to your emails and web page that allows the customer to add your information to their contacts, as shown in the following example from BeeWeaver:Screen Shot 2016-07-28 at 2.07.16 PM

This is what appears in my contacts database when I clicked “Add us to your address book”:

Of course, you won’t end up in all your customer’s contacts, so it’s important to manage your online presence to make sure you’re visible throughout the Internet. That means a strong mobile-friendly website, and a profile on Facebook, LinkedIn, BBB, Manta and Google+.
